About Me

I've spent over 15 years of my career and education building the specific skills needed to address our changing climate head-on. I know there is a way to design better buildings. Our homes can be more comfortable, healthier, more durable, and consume far less energy. As our climate crisis becomes more severe - and increasingly irreversible - we need everyone to dedicate their whole selves to the fight.
To help push Wisconsin forward, I became one of the founding members of the Passive House Wisconsin Chapter. We gathered a group of individuals that had the skills and knowledge to begin addressing this crisis. But the thing was - we were all so, so busy. Each of us was doing our best to increase awareness around sustainable building practices in addition to working full time. People would come to us wanting to build something truly sustainable as a result, but none of us had the bandwidth to take them on.
In March and April as the pandemic worsened I was knee-deep in my own gut-remodel of a home built in 1908. Working full time at a national architectural and engineering firm, I was juggling eight projects. Each only tangentially integrated the sustainable strategies I so passionately advocate for. I made up my mind. I had to build a practice that was better - and one that focused solely on sustainable building practices.

It’s time to Evolve
I have a passion for weaving together a diverse array of ideas and -often- conflicting priorities. With boundless curiosity and a sense of adventure, I also have a critical eye for integrating science. I implement my expertise in building physics and evidence-based design to make your home the most durable, healthy, and comfortable it can be. I don’t let you settle when it comes to comfort and health. I shine a light on aspects of architecture that many overlook, with considerable impact.
My collaborative and introspective approach ensures you feel engaged and connected - both during the design process and in your completed home.
I spend the time upfront to delve deep into your unique lifestyle, hopes, and goals. I focus on the tough questions to help you identify what would support you most as you live your best life. Sometimes, even if you've already put years of thought into your project, your initial assumptions might not fit your needs now, or your budget.
I've seen too many cases where architects have taken a wish list of rooms and a collection of inspiring images and produced a design, without question. Unfortunately, the result is often disappointing to everyone involved.
That's why my process is different. I feel so strongly about this deep programming that I offer it as its own service - even, and especially if you hire a different architect.
Homegrown in Wisconsin, my design ethic stems from my intimate connection to the region's rolling prairies, the expanse of Lake Michigan, the dune grass, the maple, and pine forests, the cherry orchards and dairy farms. To better secure the legacy of these unique and beloved ecosystems and the people who live there, I dedicate myself to integrating sustainability into the very fibers of each project. The end result is a home rooted in its surroundings, with a legacy of living light on the planet.
